In the Democrat and Chronicle today, Sunday, 11/05/06, Pictometry was announced as the 3rd fastest growing company in the Greater Rochester (NY) area.
Great views of pre and post 9/11 and Katrina. Pictometry has already signed up most of the biggest 100 metropolitan areas in the US, and Europe is next on their list. Pictometry made the news in the Atlanta Judge shooting story and stake out. I guess it's not just for Real Estate anymore.
As you may or may not know, Pictometry provides the aerial images on MSN's LocalLive which in turn provides these images to Zillow, giving Zillow a leg up on Real Estate Search Engines providing just straight over head satellite views.
Pictometry hopes to offer a 3-d version soon.
Zillow is providing their software and services to almost any Web site, particularly Real Estate Websites, free, in their open API. By giving out their software for free, Zillow takes another page from the Google Playbook; driving traffic and currying home searcher and Realtor favor. Redfern and Zip Realty's Websites have already jumped on Zillow's Open API bandwagon.
What's the last thing you got from the NAR, Move Corp or Realtor.com? We Realtors even have to buy our own magnets and pay to get any extra on our own Website, Realtor.com.
Last I looked it was our information. I guess that's the one area where NAR and Realtor.com agree with the Department of Justice (DOJ). It's Not Our Information.
Happy Searching.
